the burden of guilt

when you feel a heaviness in your steps,
when every breath you take is grave.
no amount of thinking will allow you to forget that you gave in to your own weakness.
the failure of man
that sickening feeling doesn’t leave
until you decide you need to move on, once and for all
you are finally in that position, desparate enough,
to finally leave the delusional shards behind,
to realize that you can no longer sit in front of the pit and tell yourself it’s not that nice on the other side anyway.
now, jump into the pit and climb back out.
